Yay, You’re engaged!
So when is the big day? Do you have a date yet? Have you started dress shopping? Will your dog be in the wedding?
Okay, that last one might be a little too specific but I can promise you that it has been asked. If you have read my blog before then you know how I feel about those joyous questions. If you haven’t, then you should. Not only because I think it is a funny read but because you might actual learn something. That’s what makes it worth something, right?
So, let’s talk for real. You’re engaged. What does that mean as far as picking a wedding date? Here are my tips to rocking the rock when choosing a date:
How soon matters. If you don’t want to marry for at least a year, you have time! If you want to marry within 12 months, well sister, you need to get moving.
Don’t set a specific date. This is a touchy topic because your anniversary is a significant date and that means so much to you. However, you might find the perfect venue at the right price but they don’t have your date. Would you rather get married at a one of a kind venue on a different date or with the perfect date at not-your-favorite venue? Don’t get me wrong, I am praying for your perfect 10! But an open mind will definitely not hurt.
Factor in holidays and school calendar vacations. If you are thinking February or May, florists may have higher prices because of Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day demands. Summer time? Plan to send a save the date so your guests can plan family vacations around your wedding date. New Years? It is hard to find vendors and servers to work so prepare to have an increased holiday cost.
Fridays and Sundays are typically less expensive than a Saturday at most premiere event venues. This is because there are more of these dates than there are Saturdays (which have a social belief of being the best day possible). My belief? Doesn’t matter. Marry when you want! Your #1’s will come. If they don’t, they aren’t #1’s. Brutal true friend test!
Be selective with whose calendar/life you take into account when picking your date. I get that your sister just has to be there and she works blackouts around Thanksgiving because of Black Friday and so that just won’t work. I really do! Just don’t keep adding to that list of availability. Again, this is your day and they will make it work or they won’t. Opinions are given freely to those who are planning a wedding. Breathe deep, my bride, and know that in the end, they will come. They will always come.
Last but not least, if you find a date at a venue you love, BOOK IT. Venues work on a first come first serve basis. If you are worried about buyer’s remorse than by all means, take your time. Most deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. But if your vibes are good and the price is right, become that venue’s bride. It is never too early to book, even my 2020’ers out there. The peace of mind you get from your date and venue being selected is tremendous. Trust me, you deserve that.
