Cheers to 20 Years: The Butler Building

This year marks the 20th anniversary that Butler’s Courtyard has been hosting weddings and events to the larger Galveston and Houston area. We have taken time with our current team and founders to reflect over the past 20 years and, boy, has it been nostalgic. It is so important to us that our couples and followers know our roots and core values. That being said, we decided to put together a 10 episode series about Butler’s Courtyard and its growth.

Episode 1 stars Ronnie Richards, husband of Nancy and one of BC’s original founders. In case you didn’t know, Nancy and Ronnie are the parents to Amber and Shawna (the current BC owners). Ronnie is actively involved in League City’s Historical Society and shared his knowledge of the Butler Building before it became Butler’s Courtyard.

In this episode you will learn the different businesses that occupied the Butler Building before Butler’s Courtyard. Did you know that our building held the first commercial bank of League City? Rumors have it that Bonnie & Clyde may have even paid a visit!

Ronnied discusses the building’s original architecture and the purpose for League City establishing this two story brick building built by George Washington Butler. You will also see photos of the original building in its hay day. We have a large print of this in our office if you have ever stopped by.

The Butler Building is not the only older building at our venue. Rose Cottage, our bridal house, also has some history to it along with the Barn (which holds our restrooms). You will learn how these buildings came about, their original purpose, and what we use them for now.

Episode 1: The Butler Building is a great way for you to learn about our building’s rich history. It is an honor for us to assist with the preservation of this Historic structure in our city and continue to bring life inside its walls. Stay tuned for Episode 2: The Birth of Butler’s Courtyard. Cheers to 20 Years!
